Draft — September 2026
The short version. smthng collects what the app needs to work and to learn what you like: your Apple sign-in details if you make an account, the events you save, like, post, and swipe on, and an optional ZIP code. Nothing is sold, nothing is used for advertising, and there are no third-party analytics or tracking in the app or on this site. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.
This page covers the smthng iOS app and getsmthng.com.
You can use the map, the list, the feed, and every event page without signing in. In that case nothing about you is stored on our servers, unless you report an event or send us feedback (both below). A few things live only on your phone:
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. We receive the name Apple shares, your email address or the private relay address if you chose Hide My Email, and a random account ID. We never see your Apple password. You can add a ZIP code to your profile; it sets the map's starting area and helps choose picks for you, and you can leave it blank.
If you allow it, the app uses your location on the phone to center the map and sort events by distance. Your precise location is not sent to or stored on our servers. When the app fetches the events in view, it sends the map's current area; that isn't kept. Location permission is optional, and if you decline, the map opens on Greenwich Village. The only location we store is the optional ZIP code on your profile.
No one, for their own purposes. The services that host smthng process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, sign-in, and photo storage), Cloudflare (this website, the app's map tiles, and share-link pages), and Apple (Sign in with Apple and the App Store). Event photos from listings load from the venues' own websites, so those sites see an ordinary image request from your phone. We don't run ads, sell data, or track you across other apps and sites. We would share data only if the law required it.
Your account and everything in it stay until you delete the account, which you can do in the app under Profile. Deleting removes your profile, saves, likes, feed history, and any events you posted, and revokes the Sign in with Apple link. It takes effect immediately. Feedback you sent stays in our inbox but is no longer linked to you. Anything stored only on your phone goes away when you delete the app. Our hosting providers keep ordinary server logs for a short time as part of normal security.
smthng is not directed to children under 13, and you shouldn't create an account if you're under 13.
getsmthng.com serves this page, the event pages behind shared links, and the file that lets iPhones open those links in the app. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Cloudflare, which hosts it, may log requests for security.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
